The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene lifted the beekeeping ban!

Bee hives now need to be registered with the DOH. Please see our RESOURCES page for more information.

Join us for our next meeting, Tuesday, May 7th, at the usual time and place (7:00PM at Seafarers). This month we will have a talk and demonstration on the Warre hive.

Chris & Eileen Kohl from Sweet Valley Pennsylvania have been keeping bees since 2009. They started with, and continue to use the Warre Hive in their bee yard based on its natural open-architecture and Laissez-Faire approach. In 2011 they formed Sweet Valley Hives, a small company whose primary mission is to promote backyard bee keeping and natural chemical free management through the use of the Warre Hive. Their company is governed by two philosophies: Preservation & Pollination. The Preservation of the Honey Bee and availing to the environment the Pollination services that only a healthy honey bee population can provide.

We will also have the usual Q and A, and after meeting libation sharing, that we normally enjoy post-meeting.

Friendly Reminder Department:

If you're keeping bees in NYC, it is MANDATORY to register your hives with the NYC Department of Health. We fought hard to get beekeeping legalized in NYC, but maintaining that status requires good-faith compliance with the laws and regulations that govern this activity. Please visit our resources page to download the relevant forms. Thanks for your cooperation!
